4th Jan 10PETER DAVIES
It is very sad for me to report that my father, Peter Davies died on 23rd December after a short, unexpected illness. He was 80 years old. He was a founder member of KHUA and KHA and was the Saturday appointments secretary for a considerable period. He was still umpiring up until this season, most recently for Sutton Valence U14 girls' team, and also treasurer of Sutton Valence Hockey Club.

A memorial service will be held at St Mary's Church, Sutton Valence at 12.00 midday on Thursday 14th January 2010, followed by refreshments at the Swan Inn, Sutton Valence, all our welcome.

2nd Jan 10ARE YOU MAD ABOUT HOCKEY?
Are you aged between 14 and 21?
If you answered 'yes' then you should think about joining the South Youth Panel.

The South Youth Panel is a group of committed 14-25 year olds, who represent the youth of hockey in the South of England, aiding development across the region. We’re looking for enthusiastic young people keen on hockey including umpires, leaders, coaches, players, officials or supporters who would like to make a difference to hockey as they know it. We have 4/5 meetings a year as well as helping to organise and run the South Schools and Clubs Mini-hockey Championships.

As well as being on the panel looking really impressive on your CV and University applications you also get the opportunity to achieve personal and group goals and implement initiatives throughout the South.

As an applicant we would ask that you will be able to commit to:

• 18th Feb (Meetings – Surbiton HC)

• 24th & 25th April (Schools Championships - Surbiton HC)

• 1st & 2nd May (Clubs Championships - Surbiton HC)

If you would like to share your hockey experiences with other hockey like minded individuals, please email south@englandhockey.org for an application form.
17th Oct 09L1 UMPIRE CANDIDATE REGISTRATION AND ASSESSMENT - IMPORTANT CHANGES
For any members who organise, tutor and/or assess L1 umpires, please be aware of the changes in process relating to the L1 umpire award (also for the information of any Candidate umpires who may visit this site). Please read the guidance on the England Hockey website regarding the paperwork. (CLICK ON ”MORE” at the end of this item, and read the Links and Documents on the right of the EH website screen which will then appear).

In summary, for KHUA, this is how it will need to be organised, to enable records to be kept up to date. L1 course tutors need to send Sarah Chapman (by email attachment or standard post) the Candidate Registration Form from the umpire course pack (which has changed in design) once there has been success for any Candidate at the theory stage. Umpire details will be forwarded onto EH by Sarah, having recorded the umpire details.

Once a candidate has been assessed successfully, please will all assessors notify Sarah Chapman by email with the date, venue and level of the assessment match and any changes in umpire contact details. Sarah will then pass that information onto England Hockey umpiring department. England Hockey will notify both the umpire and Sarah of the formal accreditation and umpire number, providing that the assessment has been completed within 2 years following success at the theory stage. Any assessments falling outside that period will not be accepted and the umpire 'de-activated' and needing to complete a refresher course/match

For the umpire, please remember to ensure that you notify your assessor if your contact details have changed since the time of your theory course.
