Tuesday 30th January 2018

A PERSONAL INVITATION This is a meeting for all members, but it is particularly aimed at Appointed Panel umpires. This meeting will also be of interest to umpires who regularly umpire the top Kent divisions as well as Pool umpires. The meeting will be held at Maidstone Hockey Club, Armstrong Road, Maidstone and will begin at 7.30pm.

This is in 11 days.

The arrangements for the meeting have been co-ordinated by Graham Baldwin for whom we are grateful. This should not be thought of as a prescriptive process where you are just being told, its purpose is to help by way of participation and discussion to improve the quality of umpiring in Kent.
If you are able to attend, please think about the issues I have mentioned below and be prepared with your own thoughts. You will buy in more easily to a process for which you have made a contribution.
There is quite a list for the agenda:-
+ Player control and management - Use of control ladder - Chris Peart
+ Discipline when red cards are used, and this season's cards and penalties. Clarification of different types of red cards - Alan Sargent
+ Current coaching trends and what coaches and assessors look for - Peter Worrall
+ Consistency and some examples of interesting decisions required in first part of the season
including break out sessions - Graham Baldwin, Peter Worrall, Chris Peart & Chris Henderson
Please make every effort to come along and make this a very interesting meeting!
Peter Worrall - Chairman of Selection

Frank Mason 2018

Thursday 1st February 2018

Date for your diary. Some of you may have noticed the Frank Mason Schools tournament has sneaked onto the appts sheet for Thursday Feb 1st. Thanks Brian. The planned format remains unchanged, 4 centres (Kent College, St Edmunds, Kings Canterbury and Polo Farm) Group games in the morning, Lunch at Kent College then a continuation at Polo and KC for the qualifiers It’s a great day out if occasionally chilly with some quality Boys school hockey on display. These teams have high expectations and some “Interesting” Coaches I will need plenty of umpires somewhere between 16 and 20 generally works well and as ever I would love to raise the bar so the more L3 and L2 qualified the better Get in touch with Simon Begg if you are interested/available. Go on.... Email,, or Text to 07710418556.

This is in 13 days.
